This Privacy Policy describes the Factsafe's policies and procedures on the collection, use and disclosure of your information. Factsafe receives your information through various web sites, APIs, applications, services and third-parties ("Services"). When using any of our Services you consent to the collection, transfer, manipulation, storage, disclosure and other uses of your information as described in this Privacy Policy. Irrespective of which country that you reside in or create information from, your information may be used by Factsafe in the United States or any other country where Factsafe operates.

  • We collect the e-mail addresses of those who communicate with us via e-mail, aggregate information on what pages consumers access or visit, and information volunteered by the consumer (such as survey information and/or site registrations). The information we collect is used to improve the content of our Web pages and the quality of our services, and is not shared with or sold to other organizations for commercial purposes, except to provide products or services you've requested, when we have your permission, or under the following circumstances:

  • Information Gathering and How It's Used
    • When you register for Factsafe we ask for information such as your name and email address which is used for the following general purposes: products and services provision, account identification and authentication, services improvement, contact, and research. Factsafe does not share your personal information with third parties, unless explicitly approved by you.
    • When you create or reconfigure a Factsafe account, you provide some personal information, such as your name, username, password, and email address. Some of this information, for example, your name and username, is listed publicly on our Services, including on your profile page and in search results. Some Services, such as topics, search, public profiles and favorites lists, do not require registration.
  • Votes and Favorite Lists
    • Factsafe is primarily designed to help you share information with the world. Most of the information you provide to us is information you are asking us to make public. This includes not only the content and comments you submit and the metadata provided with voting, such as when you voted, but also the lists you create, the people you follow, the content you mark as favorites and many other bits of information. Our default is almost always to make the information you provide public but we generally give you settings to make the information more private if you want. Your public information is broadly and instantly disseminated. For example, your public content are searchable by many search engines and are immediately delivered to a wide range of users and services. You should be careful about all information that will be made public by Factsafe, not just your content and comments.
  • Cookies
    • A cookie is a small amount of data, which often includes an anonymous unique identifier, that is sent to your browser from a web site's computers and stored on your computer's hard drive. Cookies are required to use Factsafe. We use cookies to record current session information, but do not require permanent cookies.
  • Data Storage
    • Factsafe uses third party vendors and hosting partners to provide the necessary hardware, software, networking, storage, and related technology required to run our services. Although Factsafe owns the code, databases, and all rights to the Factsafe applications, you retain all rights to your data.
  • Information Sharing and Disclosure
    • We do not disclose your private information except in the limited circumstances described here:
      • Factsafe may disclose personally identifiable information under special circumstances, such as to comply with subpoenas or when your actions violate the Terms of Service.
      • We may share or disclose your information with your consent, such as when you use a third party web client or application to access your Factsafe account.
      • We engage certain trusted third parties to perform functions and provide services to us. We may share your personal information with these third parties, but only to the extent necessary to perform these functions and provide such services, and only pursuant to obligations mirroring the protections of this privacy policy.
      • We may preserve or disclose your information if we believe that it is reasonably necessary to comply with a law, regulation or legal request; to protect the safety of any person; to address fraud, security or technical issues; or to protect Factsafe's rights or property.
      • In the event that Factsafe is involved in a bankruptcy, merger, acquisition, reorganization or sale of assets, your information may be sold or transferred as part of that transaction. The promises in this privacy policy will apply to your information as transferred to the new entity.
      • We may share or disclose your non-private, aggregated or otherwise non-personal information, such as your public content or the number of users who clicked on a particular link (even if only one did).
  • Changes
    • Factsafe may periodically update this policy. We will notify you about significant changes in the way we treat personal information by sending a notice to the primary email address specified in your Factsafe service primary account holder account or by placing a prominent notice on our site. You retain the right to access, amend, correct or delete your personal information where it is inaccurate at any time. To do so, please contact us.
